The crochet pattern

Further down in this blog, you can also view the chart for this pattern.

Round 1: make a magic ring. Ch 2 (counts as hdc), crochet 11 more hdc into the ring. Close with a sl st in the 2nd ch.

NOTE: do not pull the ring too tight! Keep more space in the center than you usually would (creating a larger hole). Otherwise, your flower might start to bulge. If that happens, gently stretch the flower out to reduce the bulging. Personally, I think it gives a nice effect; so also consider your own preference.

Round 2:

*in next: [1 sl st, ch 2, pfst (see explanation below), ch 2, 1 sl st], in next: [1 sc, pic, 1 sc].*

Repeat * until the end of the round. Finish with a sl st in the first sl st.

Puff Stitch:

Step 1: yarn over, insert hook, pull up a loop - do this a total of 3 times.

Step 2: yarn over and pull through 6 loops.

Step 3: yarn over and pull through the remaining loops.

Picot: ch 3, sl st in the 1st ch.

Finishing

There are many ways to use these flowers. Depending on what you want to do with your flower, you might not want to weave in the tail from the magic ring and/or the fasten-off tail yet.

Fasten off, but leave a long tail for sewing or weaving in.

Neatly weave in all other tails with a tapestry needle. Make sure to secure the threads properly so they don't come loose. Your flower is now ready!

Sewing the flower onto a mandala or plant pot

It's super fun to sew a flower onto a mandala or plant pot! You can do this very easily.

  1. Take the tail from the magic ring or the fasten-off tail. Thread the tail through a needle.
  2. Insert the needle through a loop of the mandala/plant pot at the desired location. Pull the thread through.
  3. Go back to the flower where you started with the thread. Insert the needle through a loop on the back of the flower.
  4. Repeat this back and forth a few times between the flower and the mandala/plant pot until the flower is neatly and securely attached.
  5. Finally, weave in all threads neatly.

Using the flower as a keychain or bag charm

Another great option is using the flower as a keychain! This is also very fun to hang on your bag! There are several ways to turn it into a keychain:

  • Crochet a chain after the last stitch of the final round. Crochet a specific number of chains and attach the chain with a slip stitch in the same stitch where you ended. Then fasten off and weave in all tails. You can now attach the loop you created to your bag or a keychain ring!
  • Take a key ring and sew the flower to it using the fasten-off tail. Thread the tail through a needle and go through the key ring and back through the last stitch of the flower several times. Then tie a knot in the thread and weave it in neatly.
