Where can you buy rings for crochet mandalas? In this blog, I will give you some useful information to make your search for a ring for your beautiful crochet mandalas a bit easier.

Rings come in all shapes and sizes. For mandalas, you often use metal rings or wooden rings. The smallest metal rings are around 4 cm and go up to 120 cm or even larger!

Metal rings

Metal rings are often used for mandalas and are available in many places.

Search terms to search online: metal ring

Some example websites and stores where rings are available (in the Netherlands):

Small rings

The smaller sizes, often up to about 60 cm, are usually available online and can be shipped. Think of hobby webshops, for example. They can also sometimes be found in the garden center, or sometimes even at stores like Wibra (Netherlands).

Larger rings

From about 60 cm or larger, it becomes more difficult for webshops to ship the rings. Due to high costs, shipping is often not possible or very expensive.

Therefore, I recommend looking for local hobby stores that sell metal rings. Look around your area to see if there is a hobby or yarn store. For example, contact them and ask if they sell metal rings. Or get in touch with other crocheters in the area and ask if they know of a good store nearby.

I currently get my metal rings at a hobby store in Spijkenisse (South Holland, Netherlands).

Wooden rings

In addition to metal rings, wooden rings are perfect to use for mandalas! These can also be found in all kinds of sizes.

Search terms to search online: wooden ring, wooden hoop, wooden gymnastics hoop

Small rings

For small sizes, you can often easily buy a wooden ring online. Embroidery hoops are also regularly used.

Please keep in mind: You do have to make sure that the ring is sturdy enough to hold the mandala in place. Because the mandala is stretched into place, the ring can bend or even break more easily. So make sure you use a sturdy and good quality wooden ring for stretching your mandala.

Larger rings

With wooden rings, it is also more difficult to ship large rings because of their size. Still, there are websites to be found where larger rings are also shipped, such as sport-thieme.nl (Netherlands). Search for 'gymnastics hoops' on the website.

Make your own ring

There are also options to make your own rings for crochet mandalas.

Smaller rings: you can, for example, make a ring yourself with iron wire. In this blog you can find a tutorial for this.

Larger rings: personally I have no experience with making larger rings myself. But I do know that there are plenty of people who have done it before! For example, look online for tutorials on making a 'hula hoop' yourself.

Hopefully, this blog has helped you in your search for a ring for your crochet mandala! Good luck and have fun!
