Levels of crochet patterns

The patterns of LKCreativeness are different in level. Most crochet patterns fall within one of these three levels:

  1. Comfortable
  2. Average
  3. Advanced/Difficult

Read more information about the levels of the crochet patterns below. Are you unsure whether a crochet pattern is suitable for you? Always read the product page of the crochet pattern for more information. You can also always contact me if you have any questions.

Level 1: Easy

A crochet pattern of level 1, easy, is suitable for beginners. For crochet patterns with the easy level, it is useful if you already have a little experience with the basic stitches before you start crocheting. For example, it is best to crochet a few test pieces first. There is always a short explanation in the patterns on how to crochet the crochet stitches. The more practice you have had, the easier patterns of this level will be for you.

It is also assumed that you know how to read a pattern. The pattern is clear and well-arranged. Take your time with it.

Tip: There is a lot of information online about how to crochet stitches, or how to read a crochet pattern. Also on LKCreativeness.nl there are tutorials. These can help you a lot if you have trouble with the crochet stitches used or if you do not know how to read a pattern.

Level 2: Intermediate

The patterns with level 2, intermediate, are less suitable for real beginners. The basic stitches can be used, but sometimes they are used in a different way. It is useful if you have already crocheted several projects and can handle the basic stitches and techniques well. You know how to read a pattern. If there are stitches or terms that you do not know yet, you can easily do it with an online article or video.

Example: the monstera wall hanging or the Rosalynn mandala .

The amigurumis are often beginner-intermediate level. It depends on whether special techniques or stitches are used.

The amigurumis are mostly crocheted with single crochets. By crocheting a certain number of stitches in your round, you can make shapes. You sew these shapes together, which completes the amigurumi. What makes it easy is that amigurumis are mainly crocheted with single crochets. Very occasionally an extra stitch is used, such as the popcorn stitch, to make toes or nostrils. A description of this is always included in the pattern. When you work with fluffy yarn, this is also more difficult than when you work with cotton yarn. All amigurumi patterns can be made with yarn of your own choice. Patterns that are crocheted with fluffy yarn in the images can also be crocheted with cotton yarn. This makes the level easier. And also nice: every pattern that uses fluffy yarn contains a free e-book with tutorials and tips for crocheting with fluffy yarn.

My very first crochet project was an amigurumi. It took me some time to figure out exactly how it works, but with the help of some videos I finally succeeded.

Level 3: advanced/difficult

The level 3 patterns, labeled as difficult or advanced, are definitely not for beginners. These patterns use many different crochet stitches and techniques. For example, the crochet stitches go through or over each other. You sometimes insert in special ways. Or crochet in multiple layers. You should definitely know the basic stitches, know what the front and back loops are, for example. Stitches such as a double crochet, front post double crochet, popcorn stitch or loose arches are often used in these types of patterns, in all sorts of different ways.

That is why these patterns are designed for advanced crocheters. This means that you already have a lot of experience with crocheting, and have already followed enough patterns that reading patterns is easy for you. These patterns also always contain the clearest possible description of the crochet stitches and techniques. In each round, a description is given of the steps you need to follow. You can always ask me for extra help if something is not clear to you.

Example: almost all mandalas are level 3, such as: the Virelle mandala , Amala mandala , Mayla mandala and Saraya mandala

I started crocheting advanced mandalas myself when I had already crocheted amigurumis (soft toys) more often, I had also crocheted some coasters with special stitches, or 'mug holders' for around your teacup that also used special techniques. I had also crocheted a nice warm blanket, and a 'flat' mandala. These were small but very educational projects for me to quickly become familiar with many stitches and techniques. And so my projects gradually became bigger. This often meant a lot of undoing and trying again. But after a while it got better and better, and I clearly noticed that I could handle all kinds of patterns or stitches more easily.
