Crocheting in the 3rd loops of a chain

There are several options to crochet in a chain. The standard option is to crochet in the top loops. But did you know that you can also crochet in the third loops? This gives you a neater edge and makes the chain less visible.

When you look at the chains from the front, you can clearly see the v shape. By crocheting into the third loops, this v shape stays neatly in place.

When crocheting in the third loop, it is extra important not to crochet the chain too tight. Therefore, I advise you to crochet the chain with a crochet hook of 1 to 2 sizes larger.

You can find the third loops by first looking at the chain from the front. There you will see the top and bottom loops, as you can see in the picture.

Now turn the chain towards you. There you will find the third loops. The arrow in the picture points to the third loop.
