The pattern

Row 1: start with a magic ring in color 1. Chain 3 (counts as dc), crochet 11 more dc in the ring. You have 12 dc in total. End with a slst in the 3rd chain.

Row 2: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in same. Ch 2, skip one stitch.
*2 dc in next, ch 2, skip 1 stitch.*
Repeat instructions between * until the end of the row, end with a slst in the 3rd chain.

Row 3: 1 slst in next, 1 slst in chainspace, ch 3 (counts as dc), 4 dc in same space, ch 1, skip 2 dc.
*5 dc in chainspace, ch 2, skip 2 dc.*
Repeat instructions between * until the end of the row, end with a slst in the 3rd chain.

Row 4: chain 3, 2 dc, dc2tog, ch 4, 1 dc in chainspace, ch 4.
*dc2tog, 1 dc, dc2tog, ch 4, 1 dc in chainspace, ch 4.*
Repeat instructions between * until the end of the row, end with a slst in the 1st dc of this row (skip the beginning chain 3).

Row 5: ch 2, dc2tog, ch 4, dc in chainspace, ch 2, blst in dc, ch 2, 1 dc in chainspace, ch 4.
*dc3tog, ch 4, 1 dc in chainspace, ch 2, blst in dc, ch 2, 1 dc in chainspace, ch 4.*
Repeat instructions between * until the end of the row, end with a slst in the 1st dc2tog of this row (skip the beginning chain 2). Fasten off.

Row 6: switch to color 2 and make a slip knot. Join with: 1 dc (or a slst and chain 3, which counts as dc) in chainspace after the dc3tog. Note: you've already crocheted the first dc of this row.
*4 dc in chainspace, ch 2, skip dc, 1 dc in next chainspace, ch 3, 1 dc in next chainspace, ch 2, 4 dc in chainspace, ch 1.*
Repeat instructions between * until the end of the row, end with a slst in the first dc (or the 3rd chain if you started with that).

Row 7: the first dc4tog is replaced by: ch 3, dc3tog. Note: you already crocheted the first 'dc4tog' of this row.
*dc4tog, ch 4, blst in dc, ch 2, 1 dc in chainspace, ch 2, blst in dc, ch 4, dc4tog, ch 2, 1 dc in chainspace, ch 2.*
Repeat instructions between * until the end of the row, skip the beginning chain 3 and slst in first dc3tog. Fasten off.

Row 8: switch to color 3 and make a slip knot. Join with: 1 dc (or a slst and chain 3, which counts as dc) in chainspace after the dc3tog. Note: you've already crocheted the first dc of this row.
*In dc: [2 dc, 1 tr, ch 2, 1 tr, 2 dc], ch 2, 1 dc in chainspace, ch 2, repeat [...].*
Repeat instructions between * until the end of the row. After the last ch 2, you end with a slst in the first dc (or the 3rd chain if you joined with a chain).

Fasten off.

Finishing

Cut 12 pieces of yarn to tie the mandala to the ring. Tie the mandala into the ring through the chainspaces between the treble crochets.
Make a slip knot and crochet 1 sc around the ring, then crochet 3 more sc around the ring.
Carefully cut the piece of yarn that you use to tie the mandala, then crochet 1 sc around the ring + through the chainspace. *14 sc around the ring, 1 sc around the ring + through chainspace.* Keep removing the pieces of yarn as you go. You end with 10 sc around the ring. You do not end with a slst. Fasten off and finish like this: cut the yarn (long enough to weave in), and pull entirely through. Using a needle: insert through the first sc that you crocheted around the ring (front to back, then go back to the last sc you crocheted and insert through the back loop only (front to back). Now neatly weave the end. Make a small knot to secure if needed.
