Strengthen Amigurumi Neck

When the neck of your amigurumi is not stable enough, there are a few options to make it more stable. Especially if the neck is very wobbly and doesn’t stay upright, these tips can be very helpful.

Tip: You can also combine multiple options to provide extra support to the neck of your crocheted amigurumi.

Extra Stuffing

Add some extra stuffing to the neck while sewing the parts together. This works particularly well when the head is completely closed.

Pipe Cleaners or Chenille Wire

Place several pipe cleaners into the neck. Always check for any sharp ends, and fold the ends over once or twice for safety.
If the head is completely closed, insert the pipe cleaners through one of the stitches at the bottom of the head. Make sure the pipe cleaners are securely in place.

Foam or Felt

Use a rolled-up piece of foam or felt. Take a sheet of felt or thin foam and roll it up tightly. Place this into the neck. This method is particularly effective if the head is open. The advantage of foam or felt is that there are no sharp edges, and it is flexible enough while still providing good neck support due to its rolled-up shape.

Extra Stitching

Be patient and sew additional rounds: sew through each stitch again, pulling the thread tightly as you go. You can also stitch one row deeper into the head and secure this row to the body with a few extra stitches. This method works for both closed and open heads.
